Light or dark?

I began reading 1 John today. What a great first chapter. John doesn't mince his words does he? He starts as he means to go on.
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin
In these few verses, John is telling us that if we call ourselves Christians but don't live in harmony with one another then we are not living in the truth. Basically we can't have fellowship with God if we choose to hate our brother. We cannot have our feet in two camps. When we do, we are in fact living a double life, we are living a lie. To be a Christian we are Christ followers - 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Christianity is not something that we are on a Sunday. We can't choose to stop being a Christian just because someone has offended us, or upset us. We have to move on and forgive them.
Let's remember what John tells us, if we walk in the light, as his is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
We need to make sure we walk in the light. Don't live a lie, live for Christ, following Christ and making sure that our feet are firmly in the right camp.
